How This Calculator Works
Enter the total bill, select a tip percentage, and optionally set how many people are splitting. The calculator multiplies the bill by the tip rate, adds it to the total, and divides by the number of people.
Formula Used
Total per person = (Bill × (1 + Tip% ÷ 100)) ÷ Number of people.
Example Calculation
A $80 dinner with 20% tip: $80 × 1.20 = $96 total. Split 4 ways = $24 each.
When to Use This Calculator
Use this calculator at restaurants, for food delivery, ride-sharing, hair salons, hotel housekeeping, or any service where tipping is customary.
In the US, 15-20% is standard for sit-down restaurants. 18% is a common default. Tip more for exceptional service.
Either is acceptable. Tipping on the pre-tax amount is more common, but many people tip on the total including tax.
Set the number of people field. The calculator divides the total (bill + tip) evenly among everyone.
